TalTech Sustainable Futures

TalTech Sustainable Futures 2026

TalTech Sustainable Futures is a university-wide student project competition taking place this academic year on 14 May at 13:00-17:00 in TalTech Student House. All students working on team-based projects within their courses and/or addressing challenges that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals are invited to participate.

During the event, students present their projects to a selected jury, which evaluates the presentations and selects the three best projects. In addition to receiving tickets to the EuroTeQaThon, the top teams will also be awarded monetary prizes. Furthermore, one team from each university will have the opportunity to further develop their project at the Ignite BootCamp, held at the end of July in Barcelona at IESE Business School.

The entire event will be conducted in English.

Enhance Connections for Sustainable Futures

For the academic year 2024/25, the central theme was "ENHANCE CONNECTIONS for Sustainable Futures“ where the pillars of sustainabilty are:

  • People – It stands for social sustainability. The aim is to enhance social equity, inclusion, health, education, and cohesion to create societies that respect human rights and needs (e.g. strengthening and empowering interpersonal communities, connecting people's needs and desires with the help of technology (including e.g. digital solutions) in different areas such as well-being, health, culture, etc.).
  • Nature – It stands for environmental sustainability. The focus is on protecting ecosystems, conserving resources, and minimizing human impact to ensure long-term environmental health (e.g. conscious connections with nature, considering our environmental resources and the connection of living organisms with the environment: interactions in the ecosystem, ensuring biodiversity and nature conservation, using renewable energy, etc.).
  • Economy – It stands for governance/economic sustainability. The aim involves efficient and fair resource management to promote stable economic growth without compromising environmental and social sustainability, job creation and responsible consumption.
The teams should address as much as possible all three pillars of sustainability (People, Nature, Economy).

Sustainable futures

The main theme is "Enhance Connections for Sustainable Futures" in which the sub-themes are: people, nature, technology. Each student team defines and selects, based on the content and result of their project/challenge, one category with which they are most associated. For this the category descriptions may help:

  • People: e.g. strengthening and empowering communities, connecting people's needs and desires with the help of technology (including e.g. digital solutions) in various fields such as well-being, health, culture, etc.
  • Nature: e.g. mindful connections with nature, considering our environmental resources and the connection of living organisms with the environment: interactions in the ecosystem, ensuring biodiversity and nature conservation, using renewable energy, etc.
  • Technology: e.g. effective connections through technology both digitally and physically in different areas such as information technology, logistics, transport, manufacturing, communication, etc.

In every category, the best project will be chosen by the jury, and the team has an opportunity to represent TalTech in the international event EuroTeQaThon, which takes place from the 8th to the 10th of June in EuroTeQ partner university École Polytechnique in Paris.
