ECEE Conference 2022
Following the previous international ECEE conferences, Department of Economics and Finance at Tallinn University of Technology hosted the 14th Conference "Evolving Challenges in European Economies" from 12–14 June 2022 onsite in Tallinn, Estonia. The event is organised in collaboration with the Bank of Estonia, the Horizon 2020 project Individual Behaviour and Economic Performance, the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 project Micro-level Responses to Socio-economic Challenges in Face of Global Uncertainties and Association for the Study of East European Economies and Cultures (USA).
We had the honour to host as a keynote speaker Professor Ariel Rubinstein, internationally highly renowned professor of economics from Tel Aviv University and New York University. His main fields of research are decision theory, models of bounded rationality and game theory.
ECEE events seek to minimise the use of paper, plastics and food waste.

ECEE Summer school 2022 program
ECEE summer school "Mechanisms and Market Design" was held from 15-16 June 2022 in Padise manor house, Estonia. The course instructor was Professor Juuso Välimäki (Aalto University).
13th ECEE (August 2021)
The 13th International Conference & Summer School Evolving Challenges in European Economies took place from 16–17 August 2021 in Tallinn.
We had the honour of hosting Professor Juuso Välimäki, an esteemed Professor of Economics, and Head of the Department of Economics at Aalto University as the keynote speaker.
The 2021 summer school covered some special topics in behavioural household finance. The course instructor was Professor Markku Kaustia, the Hannes Gebhard Professor of Finance and Insurance at Aalto University whose research on investor behaviour and other topics has been published in the top finance journals.
12th ECEE (June 2020)
The 2020 ECEE conference had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ECEE summer school was held online. We offered a course on Forecasting with DSGE Models, aimed at academic and applied researchers, PhD students as well as advanced Master students. The objective of the course was to teach participants how to:
- Estimate DSGE models: classical and Bayesian estimation
- Forecast with DSGE models: mean, median, density forecast
- Evaluate the accuracy of forecasts: ex-post forecasting competitions
The course was held online over three days from 10-12 June 2020.
We were pleased to host as the course instructor Michał Rubaszek, Associate Professor and the Head of the Financial Markets Modelling Unit at Warsaw School of Economics. He has long-term experience in central banking (National Bank of Poland as well as European Central Bank) and has authored numerous publications on forecasting with DSGE models.
11th ECEE (June 2019)
The 11th international conference "Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe" took place from 16–18 June 2019 in Tallinn.
We had the honour of hosting the renowned professor of macroeconomics, Michael Funke from the University of Hamburg, and esteemed professor of finance Ronald Anderson from London School of Economics and Political Science as keynote speakers.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 734712.
10th ECEE (June 2018)
The 10th International Conference & Summer School Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe took place from 17 – 22 June 2018 in Tallinn.
We had the honour of hosting the Aalto Distinguished Professor of Finance and Finnish Academy Professor Matti Keloharju from Aalto University, and the Academy of Finland TINT Centre of Excellence professor Aki Lehtinen from the University of Helsinki as keynote speakers
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Uno Mereste - renowned academician and professor of economics at Tallinn University of Technology - we held a special colloquium focused on research methods.
Following the success of the summer school introduced to the program in 2017, the 2018 short courses covered some special topics in behavioural economics.
9th ECEE (June 2017)
The 9th International Conference & Summer School Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe took place from 11 – 16 June 2017 in Tallinn and the Lake Nelijärve resort.
We had the honour of hosting the renowned professor of economics, Josef C. Brada from Arizona State University (USA), as keynote speaker.
This year we also organized for the first time the short courses to develop academic publishing skills, covering some special topics in economics and finance. The courses proved to be popular and have become a traditional part of the event.
Professor Ali M. Kutan from Southern Illinois University (USA), Editor of Emerging Markets Finance and Trade and Co-Editor of Economic Systems, gave a half-day course on how to publish in top economics and finance journals. Tal Mofkadi, PhD (Tel Aviv University) delivered a short course on topics in financial modelling, and Kevin R. James, PhD (London School of Economics) on the interrelations between financial markets and economic performance.
8th ECEE (June 2016)
The 8th international conference "Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe" took place from 19 – 21 June 2016 in Tallinn.
In 2016, we had the honour of hosting the renowned professors of economics, Gerard Roland from University of California, Berkeley, and Michael Funke from Hamburg University, as keynote speakers.
7th ECEE (June 2015)
The 7th international conference "Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe" took place from 19 – 21 June 2015 in Tallinn.
In 2015 we had the honour of hosting the renowned professor of economics, Josef C. Brada from Arizona State University, as keynote speaker. Professor Ali M. Kutan from Southern Illinois University, Editor of Emerging Markets Finance and Trade and Co-Editor of Economic Systems, conducted a workshop on how to publish in top economics and finance journals.
6th ECEE (June 2014)
The 6th international conference "Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe" took place from 15 – 17 June 2014 in Tallinn.
In 2014, we had the honour of hosting the renowned professor of economics, Stephanie Schmitt-Grohe from Columbia University, and the Vice Governor of Czech National Bank, Vladimir Tomsik as keynote speakers.

The 5th international conference "Economic Challenges in Enlarged Europe" took place from 16 – 18 June 2013 in Tallinn.
