Estonian Maritime Academy has 4 higher education programmes, two Master's programme and one  Doctoral Studies. All our main programmes are in Estonian, except for the doctorate. Also we do have several courses available in English, for more information on opportunities for international students, please see the section Erasmus+. Below you will find detailed descriptions of our study programmes.

Study programme is taught in Estonian.

Prepares navigators with higher education (future chief mate’s and ship captains) allowed to work on ships with total capacity unlimited. The specialist preparation of deck officers is fully compliant to the requirements of International Maritime Organization and the graduation certificate enables global employment. In addition to the skills directly needed to navigate the ship, students learn logistics, business, ship building, management psychology, maritime law, pollution prevention. Study process involves taking advantage of up-to-date specialist study rooms as well as high tech simulation centre.
 

Study period: 4 years (240 ECTS) + 1 year of seagoing practice.

Students of this major are provided with free meals (three times a day) and uniforms.

Future

After the full completion of the study programme and the specialist maritime practice the graduates will be issued a certificate of a Deck Officer Watchkeeping. After accumulating necessary seafaring experience an able watch officer may gain the position of a ship captain.

Prepares ship engineers with higher education qualified to work on ships with unlimited Propulsion Power.The specialist preparation is entirely compliant to the requirements of International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the graduation certificate enables global employment.
 

After three years of studing students will go for seagoing practice, which direction they can choose:
 

  •          Operation of Marine Powerplant

  •          Ship Refrigeration Engineer

  •          Electro-Technical Officer

Study period: 4 years (240 ECTS) + 1 year of seagoing practice.

Major subjects

Construction and Operation of Refrigerating Equipment, Heatpumps, Conditioning Facilities, Foundation of Automation, Refrigerating Electrical Devices. 

Marine diesel powerplants, Marine Auxiliary Machinery, Marine Electrical Equipment, Automated Control Systems, Basics of Automatic Control.
 

Future

The alumni work as refrigeration equipment mechanics on ships, cold storage plants and other refrigeration objects, as project managers in companies dealing with refrigeration and conditioning equipment, etc.
 

A work that pays on sea and ashore! 
 

This study programme prepares watchkeeping engineer officers with higher education (future 2nd engineers and senior engineers) qualified to work with no limitations on ship’s power. There is a demand for 10s of thousands qualified seafarers.
The education provided by the Estonian Maritime Academy of TUT and the graduate certificate are recognized on international labour market. Tens of our graduates work as ship engineers (senior- and 2nd engineers included) on ships sailing under the flags of various countries. Students will receive thorough higher education in general and specialized technical engineering.
Ship engineers will also find respectable positions in companies, industry or the energetics sector ashore. This study programme also enables specializing in ship repairs. Graduates can continue studies in the Master’s programme.

Port and Shipping Management speciality is designed to develop skills and competence through study process and practical work in the industry, preparing graduates for work in management, logistics and administration related positions in the maritime sector. Students learn about seaports, technologies for handling goods and the workings of maritime transportation related institutions, ports, organizing and managing stevedoring operations. They also learn maritime law, commercial aspects of maritime transport and marketing of maritime transport services. 
 

Study period: 4 years (240 ECTS)

Maritime Transport Commercial Practice, Maritime and Transport Law, Economics of Maritime Transport, Port Management and Operation, Stevedoring Operations, Principles of Maritime Economics. 
 

Future

Our graduates are specialists with wide range of knowledge and ability to solve complex maritime situations.
Graduates are employed, for instance, in ports, stevedoring companies, shipping companies, shipping agencies and forwarding companies on various levels of management. Master’s programme available.

Port and Shipping Management means specialized logistics – the smart choice!

A student majoring in Waterways Safety Management learns about planning and marking waterways, performing hydrographic surveys and other maritime research and drawing nautical charts. Graduates of this study programme are specialists with higher education corresponding to the standard of International Hydrographics Organisation (IHO), who work on ensuring safe navigation for maritime transport in Estonian and international waters.

Future

Graduates of this study programme are specialists with higher education corresponding to the standard of International Hydrographics Organisation (IHO), who work on ensuring safe navigation for maritime transport in Estonian and international waters.
Students in this programme learn about planning waterways, performing hydrographic surveys and other maritime research, marking waterways and drawing nautical charts. Knowledge of navigation, marine physics and marine geology, geodesy and cartography, planning and marking waterways is also obtained.
Many graduates have taken employment in Estonian Maritime Administration. Graduates of this programme may continue with Master’s studies.

The program is for students who wish become versatile specialists, be able to provide profitable solutions to maritime industry problems, improve their employability while being up-do-date with latest developments in the sector.

Future

The aim of the Maritime Studies programme is to enable the specialists in the maritime field to further their specialist knowledge and professional competence. The knowledge and skills acquired provide requirements for work in public sector as well as in business and for further studies in PhD programme.

Improve your knowledge and skills on the possibilities and trends of the digitalisation in the maritime sector and work in a digitising environment, planning sustainable and environmentally friendly strategies. Apply for the one-year study programme Maritime Digital Solutions!

During studies, students will have an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of programming, maritime business management and maritime environmental sustainability. The aim is to give students an understanding of maritime transport cargo flows, shipping markets and strategies of maritime companies. The program includes information technology courses on different levels as well as elective courses, from which students can choose the appropriate ones according to their educational background and professional experience.

The interdisciplinary study of maritime and information technology provides an understanding of the digitalisation in maritime sector, but also the economic and environmental challenges of the maritime sector where processes could be improved with the help of information technology. In addition, the students are given an opportunity to continue their studies on doctoral level where they could further study and develop some topics in depth.
